You Can Have $850 Rent Near Echo Park if You Just Live in a Backyard Winnebago

With tents in the Bay Area renting for $900 a month, it seems a little prissy to complain about the rents in Los Angeles. Why, for less than the price of a tent near San Francisco, a renter could get a place to stay in Echo Park-adjacent Historic Filipinotown that has a bathroom, a shower, on-site laundry, and a full kitchen! All that renter would have to do is overcome any prejudices they may have against living in a Winnebago parked behind a triplex of actual apartments. We've got it made, LA!

The unit (via LAist) measures 210 square feet, and is advertised as a one-bedroom, but is likely more of a studio. Step inside and find a full bathroom and a shower, a queen bed, and a furnace and air conditioning. The beige and blue interior is furnished with linoleum and carpeting, and is "very nice ... very well kept." (There are no interior photos, sadly.) Let's not forget the landscaping: citrus trees along the back and those potted trees in front.

As for amenities, there's on-site laundry behind the triplex, and the motorhome shares the backyard with a hot tub. WiFi and all utilities are included in the $850 rent, and there's even parking available for a $50 fee, though that's only available Monday through Friday, so cars will have to move to the street over the weekend. Really, minus the super-small size and the fact that it might not be legal to live here—it apparently isn't legal to rent out a motorhome on private property; they have to be in a trailer park—this doesn't sound like an awful deal. In fact, we have to agree that this set-up is "a perfect situation for the right person."
