The FlyAway Will Run Between LAX and Long Beach By the End of the Year

Everyone's favorite one-seat ride to LAX, the FlyAway, is adding a new stop, possibly in time for the holidays. Service running from the Long Beach Transit Gallery at First Street and Long Beach Boulevard (next to the First Street Blue Line station) to LAX is planned to start sometime in December, says KPCC, though the exact date has yet to be chosen. (It should be decided in the next couple weeks.) Fares for at least the first six months will be just $7; after that, it's possible the price could change.

The new line is being implemented after an airport study showed that "the fifth largest percentage of originating passengers using LAX," came from Long Beach, a rep for Los Angeles World Airports (which runs the FlyAway) told KPCC. They expect about 50,000 people to ride in the first year alone—about as many as use the Hollywood FlyAway in the same period, said a statement from LAWA. The service has an agreement to run between Long Beach and LAX for one year with two options to extend service another one-year period.

This line is just one of the new routes that LAWA has to offer by the end of 2015 as part of a court settlement that arose out of its airport expansion plans.
