Questionable Malibu Riviera Motel For Sale For First Time Since 1947 at $7.5 Million

New, 5 comments

Driving down Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu and passing the Malibu Riviera Motel, people might think either "nightmare deathtrap" or "quaint beach-bum digs." The Yelp reviews waver between those two camps as well. ("Perfect for a surfing trip with friends and family and cheap for Malibu" but also "the manager came after my husband with a hammer.") Even Google Maps knows they're "budget accommodations with spartan rooms." The hostelry doesn't have an ocean view and sits directly next to PCH (that's not the ocean you're hearing), but it's a hotel on 4.34 acres in Malibu, so now that it's up for sale, it's going to list for a cool $7.5 million, says The Malibu Real Estate Blog, which spoke to the broker for the property (not yet openly listed on the MLS). The property has been in the same family since 1947, so it'll be exciting to see how some new blood might shake up the place or carry on the offbeat traditions.
