101-Adjacent Mixed-User Bringing Big Change to Hollywood/Western Zone

The little corner of Hollywood around Hollywood and Western is changing quite a bit lately, with one fancy mixed-user, plus a boutiquey hotel in the works just a couple of blocks away. But the whole area should really start to transform with this new project on the boards for a spot at 5750 Hollywood (at Taft) now housing a large, empty, commercial space, says Building LA. The retail-and-residential development will be just off the 101 Freeway—not Geoff-Palmer-fauxtalian-fortress close, but almost, separated from the busy freeway only by an auto repair shop.

Designed by the firm Carrier Johnson + Culture, the building's contrasting materials (metal panels, ceramic tiles, projecting balconies) and alternating stretches of white and black are all meant to "provide visual references to Hollywood's filmmaking heritage," says the environmental report.

Rising seven stories, 5750 Hollywood would hold 161 units, 5,700 square feet of street-level retail, and parking for 271 cars and 96 bicycles. The apartments would be a combination of studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, with some live/work lofts thrown in the mix as well. Fourteen units would be set aside for very low-income households. Developers 5750 Hollywood Boulevard, LLC are anticipating a January 2016 groundbreaking, with construction completed by June 2018.
