Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,500.

↑ The hardwood floors are original in this upper-level one-bedroom in East Hollywood, and that's kind of special in this laminate-floor world (not that there's anything wrong with laminate). The handsome unit comes with an ornamental fireplace, a dining room off of a "charming kitchen," and plenty of big windows. All of this is located right by Vermont and Beverly and rents for $1,450.

↑ Just across York from Occidental College, this one-bedroom very close to the Highland Park and Eagle Rock border boasts a big living room, a new wall-mounted air conditioner/heating unit, and a covered, outdoor parking space. The rent is $1,475.

Two bedrooms?! Ooh-la-la! This upstairs apartment in Valley Glen also offers real hardwood floors, nice, big windows, a cute, tiled-counter kitchen, on-site laundry, and a parking space under the carport. The rent is $1,525.

↑ A giant mirror in the living room is helping this one-bedroom in Mar Vista feel doubly roomy and open. The off-Washington apartment has front and back doors, tiled counters, pink bathroom tile in the shower, and access to a communal garden on the property. The rent is $1,595.

↑ Located right on Los Feliz Boulevard in Los Feliz, this studio apartment has a lot of fancy little extras, like a balcony and a "luxury tub" in the bathroom. There are new appliances in the kitchen, granite countertops, assigned parking, central heating and air, and on-site laundry, too. Rent is $1,595.
