Mostly Charming 1920s Castle in Eagle Rock Asking $810k

New, 19 comments

Let's get the bad stuff about this listing in southwestern Eagle Rock out of the way first. For starters, its photos are pretty poor quality, like, Craigslist-ad-in-the-nineties bad. Furthermore, the 1924 turreted residence looks to have been subjected to some unfortunate remuddling, particularly in its kitchen and baths. But on the plus side, the quirky three-bedroom, three-bath house—which the description says is "known to be the reputed home of actress Zazu [sic] Pitts"—still seems to have lots of appealing traits in its favor, such as hardwood floors, lovely plaster moldings, an elaborately carved fireplace, French doors, a dumbwaiter, updated 220-volt electrical service, copper plumbing, central air and heat, and solar panels. The property also contains a separate studio apartment, a terraced backyard, and two-car garage. Sited on a 6,690-square-foot hillside lot, it's asking $810,000. (And if you're interested, here's ZaSu Pitts's much lovelier former house in Brentwood.)
