Massive, Lavish Montecito Estate With Secret Pub Asks $125MM

New, 27 comments

Wealthy, celeb-filled Montecito is full of stunning and lavish properties, but this one stands out on its size alone. Rancho San Carlos is about 237 acres and has a 12-bedroom, nearly-30,000-square-foot main house, 10 small cottages, space for horses, a barn, an outdoor riding arena, and roughly 100 acres of orchards filled with citrus and avocado trees, says the Wall Street Journal. Curbed National notes that even after a few large price cuts, the estate could break sale records for the area.

Per the listing site, the Monterey-Colonial main house surrounds a central courtyard, offers ocean views, and comes with water rights to the nearby creek—likely very valuable during these drought times. Inside the massive house are crystal chandeliers, hand-painted murals in the bedrooms, oak-paneled formal rooms, and a secret "English-style pub" hidden behind a paneled wall (an important feature for a Prohibition-era home).

Though no houses in the area have broken through the $100-million barrier yet, the agents marketing Rancho San Carlos point out that the nearby Bellosguardo estate is thought to be worth around that much, and so this property—a "one of a kind" place—should definitely be able to fetch its asking price of $125 million.
