Through the lucky discovery of a box of reel-to-reel tape (and the quick digitization of that tape before the acetate turned to dust), an audiophile named Gary Nissley has been able to save the sounds created for the long-gone Pacific Ocean Park on the Santa Monica Pier. So many weird, cool noises—"safety warnings, sound effects and the goony bird—a fan favorite from the park's glory days"—have been preserved, thanks to Nissley (who now works at Pasadena's PooBah Records). All the sounds are spacey and fun, but that goony bird is the real gem. [SCPR]
