One splash in the wave of changes washing over Westlake recently is this massive, $200-million mixed-use project slated for the block bordered by Bixel, Lucas, Wilshire, and Sixth Street, right by the Good Samaritan Hospital. Building LA shares new renderings by Togawa Smith Martin, which show the complex will have a strong Miami Vice vibe and will also include a "pedestrian paseo" running through from north to south. The 900,000-square-foot project will also have 25,000 square feet of street-level commercial space and more than 600 units (studios up to three-bedrooms). Residents of the complex will have access to amenities like rooftop decks, a gym, and a pool.
The project, developed by Holland Residential and in the works for about two years now, will also include the conversion of an eight-story, AC Martin-designed office building at Bixel and Lucas; it'll get 42 apartments, 27 of which will be set aside as affordable housing. HPG already has a successful, smaller development in the neighborhood at 1111 Wilshire.
