Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for around a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,450.
↑ This unit's going to lock you into a one-year lease, but what's not to like? The one-bedroom unit seen here is located on a tree-lined Beverly Hills street and comes with a patio, air conditioning in the bedroom (nowhere else?), and one covered parking space. The fridge and stove pictured are included in the rent, too. No pets are allowed, but water and trash are paid. The rent is $1,449.
↑ Thank goodness for the Valley, which brings us a two-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom that looks pretty sharp at this budget. This lower unit in Van Nuys has central air conditioning, on-site laundry, and pet-friendly policies. There are all-new appliances in the kitchen (including a dishwasher) and gated parking to boot. This dreamy little apartment is renting for $1,550 a month.
↑ The stairs make this lofted studio seem so much larger than 413 square feet, but that's all it is. Not too far from SMC, this Santa Monica apartment packs a bathroom with a walk-in shower and a little kitchen (with dishwasher) into the downstairs area. No word on parking, though. The rent is $1,495.
↑ Okay, so it's pretty far east, but this Pasadena one-bedroom (a corner unit upstairs, we might add) offers shiny granite counter tops, on-site laundry, and laminate wood floors. The rent is $1,450.
↑ This one-bedroom near the border of Hollywood and West Hollywood boasts laminate floors, a ceiling fan in the bedroom, and air conditioning in the living room, which isn't great but could be worse. The bedroom has two large-looking closets, and there's a balcony, though it seems like the view is just of the building next door. The parking appears to be tandem-style. Rent is $1,395.
