Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent or buy for around a certain dollar amount in various LA 'hoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Our friends at Zumper have helped us out with five listings within $100 of today's price: $1,200.
↑ This 500-square-foot studio looks roomier than it is, with those new laminate floors and all that closet space. And it's a lot cooler than it looks: it has air conditioning (it looks like a newer wall-mounted version, but better than nothing). The Koreatown unit is located on the second floor and comes with parking, pool access, and on-site laundry. The rent is $1,150.
↑ There's plenty of curb appeal to this Harvard Heights one-bedroom. The first-floor apartment is set back from the street and comes with a walk-in closet, air conditioning, and laminate floors. There's also a dishwasher and on-site laundry, but maybe not parking. Rent is $1,195.
↑ New granite counters in the narrow full kitchen, the sunny yellow interior, and assigned parking make this Studio City one-bedroom extra-attractive. The air conditioning here appears to be wall-mounted, but that's a step up from a swamp cooler, and the storage space in the bedroom seems ample. The building is on the smaller side—just 10 units—which means that if someone steals your laundry from the complex facilities, it'll be pretty easy to narrow down the culprits. Monthly rent is $1,295.
↑ Some of the photos for this apartment have a blueish haze at the bottom, which could be either an ill-chosen camera filter or the ghost that haunts this apartment, but it's not taking away from the appeal of this one-bedroom in Hermon, an area of Montecito Heights with a popular dog park. (Pets will be "considered" at this apartment.) The complex is gated, and comes with assigned parking. Those countertops and cabinets are all new. Rent is $1,150.
↑ There's plenty left to the imagination about this one-bedroom in North Hollywood, but from the four pictures, it seems like a clean second-floor unit. Wall-mounted air conditioning and new laminate floors (which appear to be de rigueur in this price range) are part of the deal, as is one parking space. Rent for the 572-square-foot apartment is $1,125.
