The Downtown revitalization has "squeezed out" the homeless and pushed them right over to the Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights areas—particularly to the County-USC Medical Center, says a six-month-long study released yesterday. With all the development and money coming into Downtown, many of the homeless are moving east in search of places "where their mere presence does not involve such vigorous scrutiny," says a rep for the group that conducted the survey. (Note: research has shown that it's less costly to pay for housing for the homeless than it is to pay for their emergency room visits.) [LAT, image via Tom Andrews]
