The newly-opened Belmar Apartments in Santa Monica are the "largest single affordable housing development that [Santa Monica] has helped finance," according to the Santa Monica Mirror (which is a big deal because residents are fighting the city's plan to support more affordable projects). The complex is located within developer Related Cos.'s Ocean Avenue South, a mixed-use (and mixed-income) condo/apartment complex. SaMo-based Koning Eizenberg designed the 160-unit affordable complex, which contains live/work studios with roll-up storefronts, as well as apartments in one-to-three-bedroom floorplans.
