Venice Beach, Echo Park Lake, Pershing Square, and More LA Parks Getting Free WiFi Starting This Week

New, 17 comments

While LA's still working on that free, citywide internet plan, the LA Department of Recreation and Parks has gotten busy launching a pilot program that will bring free WiFi to six parks scattered across the city: Cabrillo Beach, Echo Park Lake, Griffith Observatory, Pershing Square, Reseda Park, and Venice Beach. The service, officially and charmingly called Oh, Ranger! Wi-Fi™, will not only allow park visitors to shop for shoes in a public park, but also let them "submit service requests directly to the Department's construction and maintenance division," which is definitely what most people are going to use it for. The WiFi program is set to launch Thursday, according to a release from Councilmember Tom LaBonge.
