Take a Video Tour Around the LAPL's Enormous "Map Cave"

New, 1 comment

Holy cartography, Mapman! (No one in this video says that, but that's a missed opportunity.) In this first episode of what we hope will be a long series from the LA Public Library and its map librarian Glen Creason, viewers get a glimpse into the library's vast treasure trove of maps (available to the public!). Looking at a 1955 map of the Sunset Strip, Creason illustrates how the Strip had "four lifetimes," including its post-Prohibition glamor days as nightclub central and its punk heyday in the '80s. Great photos buttress the information the map provides, and the video's an awesome condensed history lesson on a segment of the city that's rapidly changing.
