12 Photos of Dogs Hanging at WeHo's Hart Dog Park

New, 5 comments

As part of Outdoors Week 2014, we're looking to settle the question once and for all of Los Angeles's best dog park. Nominate your dog park for eternal glory by writing us a short description of what makes it so great and telling us why your dog loves it; send your noms to la@curbed.com. Meanwhile, we're rounding up the nominees all week and sharing loads of adorable photos (and videos) from each. Voting begins Friday.

Weirdly enough, William S. Hart Park just off the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood belongs to the city Los Angeles, although it has never been in the city of Los Angeles. Hart, one of the first Western movie stars, donated his house and its adjoining grounds to LA in the 1940s, back when WeHo was still part of LA County (some people think he meant to donate it to them but called the wrong place, according to the LA Times). In 1988, LA leased the land to WeHo, which now runs an off-leash dog area there, with separate hours for large and small dogs. The pups seem to like it—here are many many photos proving our point:
