Yes indeed, this is actually the very first house built in Sherman Oaks way back in 1929. The home was owned by Stanley Norris Petit and his wife Mary Jane. Mr. Petit's obituary from June 2000 in the LA Times tells the story of the Petit's relationship with the Valley -- he was the first person to land an airplane at Van Nuys Airport, and with his father owned Encino Ranch, the largest single parcel of property in the Valley. There's also Petit Avenue which runs non-continuously through the Valley which was named after the family.
