For $35 million, you can be the next owner of the 10-acre estate where Charlie Chaplin married Oona O'Neill, where Thomas Mann slept, and, oh yeah, where Tony Montana fell in a hale of gunfire in Scarface. (The movie's wedding scene was also filmed here.) Per the Wall Street Journal, the 1906 estate, called El Fureidis ("tropical paradise" in an unnamed language), was designed by Bertram Goodhue, whose other notable works include the LA Public Library's Central branch. The house is nearly 10,000 square feet, has just four bedrooms, but includes "numerous reflecting pools," a room with 18-foot-high domed ceilings, a ceiling in the dining room that is painted in 24-carat gold leaf with a scene involving Alexander the Great, and "a Byzantine-style 'conversation room,'" which looks a lot like a less-humid Turkish bath. The current owner, a billionaire Russian banker, will part with the place for $35 million.
