LAX launched a big campaign this week ("LAX is happening") to let everyone know 1) that it doesn't suck quite as much as it used to and 2) that it sucks a lot right now because there's a lot of construction going on. Tom Bradley International and Terminal 6 have already been overhauled, but work is now very much underway at Terminals 5 and on "a $118 million Curbside Appeal Project, which will provide a new, dramatically upgraded exterior in the Central Terminal Area (CTA) loop; a number of new traffic safety and roadway improvements, including a second level (departures level) retrofit; new inline baggage handling and screening systems; new escalators, elevators and moving walkways; demolition and completion of a new Central Utility Plant to more efficiently heat and cool all airport locations; more terminal charging stations; as well as renovations and upgrades in terminals at LAX."
