The fight to preserve the ranch-style Tirado House in Silver Lake, designed by noted Chinese-American architect Gilbert Leong, was unsuccessful as the City's Cultural Affairs Commission found the house to be non-significant in February of this year following a site visit to the house. The Commission's finding clears the way for the home's demolition and the construction of five single family homes as part of a small-lot subdivision. The project's environmental documents are now available for review through June 9th on the City's web site. The applicant, listed as Michael Rublevich of Beverly Hills, is asking to begin construction prior to recordation of the tract map to subdivide the property. A history of the house and Leong, the first Chinese-American graduate of USC's architecture school, remains online as part of the CAC decision. [City of LA; previously on Curbed]
