Gamechanging Little Tokyo Apartments Start at $1,933

The western edge of Little Tokyo feels a lot different since the mixed-use Ava Little Tokyo began taking shape a year ago on the site of a big parking lot called Parcel D. We're about six months from an opening for the two-building project—the structure on Second and Los Angeles streets is further along than the one on Third and Los Angeles—which includes 280 rentals and 17,000 square feet of retail from developer AvalonBay. Studios run 642 square feet and start at $1,933 (ouch), one-bedrooms are about 800 square feet and begin at $2,046, while a 1,082-to-1,309-square-foot two-bedroom begins at a touch under $3,000. Don't expect prices to be much lower at the next-door Sares-Regis mixed-user, currently a construction pit behind Ava.
