Sandwiches on Sixth in DTLA, Trader Vic's Out at LA Live, Grilled Cheese Melting on Melrose

DOWNTOWN: Finally, something is moving into the former Sixth Street home of Babycakes: Hero Shop, a banh mi sandwich purveyor from chef Eric Park of Silver Lake's Black Hogg, opens in the next two weeks.

SOUTH PARK: Down at LA Live, Trader Vic's has shuttered after five years of business. The franchisee for the tiki palace went bankrupt, even though the place seemed somewhat busy (the Vic's in Beverly Hills is still around). No clue yet what's moving in.

BEVERLY GROVE: Greenspan's Grilled Cheese finally opens a week from tomorrow on Melrose, after five years in the making. Eric Greenspan, the winner of LA's 2008 Grilled Cheese Invitational, will bring his winning sandwich—taleggio, short ribs, arugula, apricot caper purée, raisin bread—to the menu, along with other oddball sandwich combos like the Elvis (white bread, goat cheese, banana, peanut butter).
