Take a Look at the Huge Springfield Headed to Universal Studios

New, 4 comments

The Universal Studios expansion train is finally on the tracks and really starting to pick up speed now: With The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and a ride based on the animated film Despicable Me currently underway, Universal Studios Hollywood has announced that they'll also be creating a huge Simpsons area (around the existing ride) based on the animated town of Springfield and adding a new Fast and the Furious element to the studio tour, reports the Daily News. The Simpsons-themed area with restaurants and shops straight from the TV show (Do people really want to eat a Krusty Burger?); it'll be bigger than the Springfield at Universal Studios Orlando.

The Fast & Furious—Supercharged will be a "pulse-pounding, adrenaline-fueled" ending to the new version of the studio tour, surrounding riders with a 360-degree, 3D-HD screen, jostling them around with hydraulics, and, if the renderings are to be believed, putting on an awesome pyrotechnics show. The reboot of the studio tour will also add a spooky, "dark side" tour to run at night (Bates Motel! Frankenstein!), but the F&F segment will be part of both.

The Simpsons zone is expected to open in spring 2015; the Fast & Furious segment of the tour will open that summer.
