Congratulations to susyQ, who logged her first comment ever to correctly guess the current location of yesterday's Cornerspotter. Our hats are also off to Michael Raley, who explained how it could be that the ice cream shop building is still in the same place, but is no longer on the same exact street.
Today, this photo would be of the northeast corner of Soto Street and Cesar Chavez Avenue in Boyle Heights, but at the time this photo was taken, it most definitely would have been Soto and Brookyln Avenue. Before March 1994, Cesar Chavez didn't exist; it was created by renaming parts of Brookyln Avenue, Macy Street, and Sunset Boulevard. (There was also some new street laid down to complete the link-up.) This coming March 31 is the twentieth anniversary of the renaming of Cesar Chavez Avenue.
