HOLLYWOOD: La Monarca Bakery, a Mexican bakery spreading its wings across the city, just opened a new eatery at Sunset and Gower (there's another outpost in Santa Monica). The flan, agave nectar cookies, and cazuelas with chipotle beans are all made onsite, and there's organic coffee from Oaxaca. La Monarca has its sights set on DTLA now.
BEVERLY HILLS: Speaking of bakeries, BH just stepped up its coffee and pastry game with the opening of Comoncy, a California coffee shop and cafe. Equator Coffee provides the brew, with healthy breakfast and lunch fare including gluten-free bagels and kale salads.
WESTWOOD: Hoping to fill a niche in Westwood Village, Simplethings brings high-quality sandwiches, salads, and pies to Kinross Avenue. The pies may be the highlight, with flavors like pumpkin, blueberry, and mud filling up the refrigerated case. Open now.
