After sitting vacant for six years, the Art Deco General Hospital building in Boyle Heights has reopened (its first floor) as the Wellness Center. Offering health and social services from 16 agencies that run the gamut from mental health to community gardening organizations, the goal of the center is to ramp up preventative medicine and reduce emergency room trips, says the office of County Supe Gloria Molina. More uses are still under development. [Eastsider LA]
