Downtown Art Walkers last night might have seen some unCANnily (NOT sorry) realistic recreations of their favorite snacks, cartoon characters and pop culture iconography made entirely out of canned food inside the Historic Core's Farmers and Merchants Bank building. Canstruction LA (past years' entries here), is both a benefit for the LA Regional Food Bank and an excuse for fancy architects and designers to engage in pure engineering fun. Last year's event donated 21,076 pounds of food and drew $12,034 in donations. (The exhibit is free to attend; donations are optional.) The exhibit will be open today until 8 pm and this weekend from 11 am to 5 pm. Then, all cans are destined for the food bank.
