Sidewalk Wars

LA City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield (who represents parts of the San Fernando Valley) is pushing to revive a cost-sharing program that would help to fund sidewalk fixes by getting private property owners to foot up to 75 percent of the costs. The effort would focus on straightening out the sidewalks that are used most, like those along major commercials streets or public transit corridors. In 2012, it was estimated that 42 percent of LA's sidewalks were in disrepair, but it's probably more by now. [LAT, image via Atwater Village Newbie]
