Dignitaries and Metro officials happily held up a $670-million check from Uncle Sam this morning; that money will pay for nearly half of the under-construction Regional Connector, the subway tunnel that will connect the Gold, Blue, and Expo Lines and add three new DTLA stations. The money comes from the New Starts program; the RC is the first Metro project since the Eastside Gold Line extension to grab that dough. The connector opens in about six years.
