Koreatown has been on the upswing for a while, but a bunch of new boutique hotels are now accelerating the change, with a third—the Nest on Catalina—now on its way. The Line, with 388 rooms and restaurants from celebrity chef Roy Choi, is looking sharp in its soft-opening (we'll take a full tour soon) and, nearby, Hotel Normandie is now open with 94 rooms and its own hip forthcoming restaurants. Now on Catalina Street, between Wilshire and Sixth, developers are working on a six-story extended-stay hotel with 75 rooms, seven apartments, and 1,500 square feet of retail/restaurant space on the ground floor.
Building Los Angeles shared some details on the Nest last month: the project will be designed by EWAI Architecture and "clad in plaster, corrugated metal paneling and stone veneer." Besides all those rooms, it'll come with a fitness center, internal courtyard, and an underground garage with parking for 91 (despite being just a few blocks from a Metro stop).
Groundbreaking is scheduled for 2015.
