Many have given massive side-eye to developer BRE's new Miracle Mile mixed-user, Wilshire La Brea, which threw up a mass of levels and colors at the site of a former mid-century bank. There's no arguing for TCA Architects' discombobulated Wilshire side--though the wide sidewalks and ground-floor retail are nice--but things aren't as headache-inducing on the project's other four sides, especially along Sycamore Avenue and Eighth Street. The townhouses lining Sycamore add a nice touch to the street and the Eighth Street units are pretty good, especially as they curve toward La Brea. The restraint continues along La Brea until moving north to Wilshire and the lunacy sets in. The massive project contains a total of 480 units, studios to two-bedrooms that start in the low $2,000s; move-ins are imminent.
