This stretch of road is much busier now than it was back *in the 1930s (not exactly 1930) when this picture was taken. Notice the speed limit then: 20 miles per hour. You'd be lucky to go that fast during rush hour now. The Sontag Drugstore in the middle of the image was one of the largest drugstores in America when it was built, but now it's made way for bigger, taller things.
