Google executive chairman and 138th-richest person in the world Eric Schmidt has just dropped $22 million on a mansion on coveted Mapleton Drive in coveted Holmby Hills—his new place is across from the Playboy Mansion and just up the road from Ellen DeGeneres's gorgeous new Brody House. Schmidt bought the 1932 "French chateau" from actor Gregory Peck's family; Peck's widow Veronique bought the house a decade ago, shortly after his death, and died herself in 2012. The house sits on 1.31 acres and comes with seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a formal dining room, breakfast room, two maids' rooms, an elevator, and a pool. The property hit the market last August asking $24.995 million. Veronique Peck picked it up in 2004 for $14.135 million.
