Metro Could Run a Valley-to-UCLA Bus on 405's New HOV Lane

New, 38 comments

As the Westside prepares for Jamzilla, Metro's 80-hour closure of the northbound 405 this weekend, the transit agency has released info about one benefit that could come out of the whole nightmare of the 405 Freeway widening project. Metro is considering launching a new express bus from North Hills to Westwood Village that would use the carpool lanes that are a central piece of the 405 project. Line 588 would operate only on weekdays during rush hour and would start once the entire northbound carpool lane is finished. The bus line, which has no funding yet, would have stops hitting Van Nuys Boulevard, where Metro is studying a light rail line, the Orange Line, and Sepulveda Boulevard before hopping on the 405, getting off on Wilshire, and veering around Westwood. Metro is also considering an extension to Westwood for Sepulveda Boulevard's Line 734, which runs from Sylmar to Ventura Boulevard.
