You guys, the latest movie to destroy Los Angeles has EVERYTHING: It has Downtown buildings crumbling, it has the Hollywood Sign falling over, it has a giant wave taking out the coast, it has an eerie cover of "California Dreaming." It has a total shamelessness about ripping off 2012. It has Paul Giamatti saying "Even though this is happening in California, you will feel it on the East. Coast." EVERYTHING. What is happening in California in this movie? Who knows, the San Andreas fault broke open and half the state is falling into the ocean, we guess. Who cares!
Everything about San Andreas make it seem like the best kind of disaster. Its original title was San Andreas: 3D, three different sets of writers worked on the script, the director is best known for Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, it stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kylie Minogue. In the classic disaster movie plot, Johnson plays a helicopter pilot who teams up with ex-wife Carla Gugino to rescue their daughter after or possibly before some kind of awesome-looking seismic event. Maybe along the way they realize they never stopped loving each other, who knows? Who cares!
