Mayor Garcetti showed his support this week for the LADWP's goal of reducing Los Angeles's energy use by 15 percent by 2020—a move that, if met, would have the same effect as taking 440,000 cars off the road every year. Angelenos can do their part by getting low-flow toilets or energy efficient appliances (there are rebates for both), but they certainly can't do it all on their own—half of the city's electricity demand comes from a mere 4 percent of the buildings.
