See How They Made the Tracks on the Gold Line Extension

New, 9 comments

The Gold Line light rail extension into the San Gabriel Valley is about to reach a huge mile-marker: the tracks will be complete this weekend, says a release from the Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority, which is constructing the 11.5-mile route from Pasadena to Azusa. The entire process looks oh-so-simple in this great, less-than-six-minute video, in which the building and drilling and compacting all gets boiled down to five easy steps, with cameos from some giant, awesome machines (including one named "The Tie Dragon").

Construction on the $800-million project is on budget, on time, and scheduled to be complete by September 2015, at which point Metro will take over the reins and start testing trains on the rails.
