Long-Stalled Herald-Examiner Redevelopment Getting A Pair Of Mixed-Use Neighbors

New, 3 comments

A 94,000-square-foot, two-parcel spread at Eleventh and Hill Street and Twelfth and Broadway will soon be the site of two mixed-users with apartments and first-floor retail, Globe St. said today. The lots are on either side of the Hearst-Corporation-owned Herald-Examiner building, which is still awaiting lofty plans for redevelopment (it's been waiting since 2002). As we reported last year, those plans have been "on hold approximately forever," but they are not fully dead: Hearst and the buyer of the adjacent lots, Forest City Enterprises, worked together closely on what a Hearst rep called "a complex deal that required the two parties to work together to make sure their upcoming projects support and complement each other." We've also heard recent rumblings that work could be about ready to move ahead on the Hearst building, but who knows.
