In late 2011, NPR writer/producer Chumi Paul got a hell of a deal on the Schlessinger Residence, the last house built by the great modernist architect Rudolph Schindler (who died before the house was finished). Paul paid $600,000 to the Schlessinger estate to become the second-ever owner of the house, built between 1952 and 1954 for an LA City College professor and his wife on a choice spot overlooking the Shakespeare Bridge in the Franklin Hills. She's spent the last couple years restoring the house and, according to the listing, bringing it more in line with Schindler's original plans, which had been changed because of "[b]udgetary contstraints as well as owner preferences." Now Paul has flipped it back onto the market, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and "a newly configured office/study." Asking price is $1.149 million.
