Dang, that didn't take our commenters that long at all to spot that corner! Jahooda was the first to correctly guess that this is a 1970s photo of Sunset and Alvarado—the northwest corner, looking north—though armchair boogie was the first to answer the question in song, quoting Tom Waits's "Emotional Weather Report". We thought the biggest clue was the sign for the 2 Freeway (California State Route 2, for the purists) on the opposite side of the street, but you also might have recognized the church in the background—it looks almost exactly the same today.
