Gizmodo writer (and Walker in LA) Alissa Walker recently spent a week in Las Vegas exploring its Downtown Project, a weirdly cult-like redevelopment (she calls it "evangelical urbanism") sponsored entirely by Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh. Turns out it's kind of like Burning Man: "The urban follies like the geodesic dome, the drum circle at sunset, the glowing accessories, the emphasis on fire." Transplant tech workers seem to love it, but long-time locals have ended up feeling left out. Sounds like San Francisco in the desert. [Gizmodo]
