Good news out of Lynwood, where a 15-year battle between the city and the owners of the Rocket Gas and Cleaners has come to a satisfying end. A judge has ruled against the owners of the toxic site, near Long Beach Boulevard and Lynwood Road, allowing a clean-up to finally begin, with $1.5 million in federal and state grants helping to pay for the remediation, according to the website of County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. To pile on the good news, Anaheim-based grocer Northgate Markets has inked a deal to build a mixed-use project—a 30,000-square-foot supermarket below 68 units of affordable housing—once the parcel is spic and span. The development will be transit-friendly; it's only a block away from the Long Beach Boulevard Green Line station.
