Take A Rare Peek Inside The Academy Museum's Future Home

The Academy of Motion Pictures movie museum won't open in the old May Company building at Wilshire and Fairfax until 2017, but there's an exhibition running there now: Journey of a Dress, about Diane von Furstenberg's iconic wrap dress. Racked LA has a lot more on that, but we're more interested in that building—it's been mostly shuttered to the public since LACMA bought it in the '90s and there aren't many photos available (LACMA's blog shared a few, much eerier ones back in 2010). Architects Renzo Piano and Zoltan Pali will overhaul the 1939 building and add a huge glass sphere to the back; these photos, of the ground floor only, give us some idea of the bones they're working with. You can also go check it out yourself through April 1. The Academy Museum is supposed to start work late this year.
