Some locals are breathlessly tracking construction of the Expo Line light rail extension to Santa Monica, but it's easy to forget the Gold Line extension to Azusa—way out in the San Gabriel Valley—opens about the same time, in late 2015 or early '16 (time to start betting on which line will open first?). The Gold Line Construction Authority just released pictures of the line's first new station canopies, at the Duarte/City of Hope stop. You can see the canopy's skeleton in the pics, while the roofs are getting installed as we speak. There is also tons of bridge work going on, with much progress made on the Santa Anita Avenue bridge (see image). The Construction Authority also notes that they've issued a request for proposals for engineering work on the extension to Montclair—a further extension that's environmentally-cleared but unfunded.
