This week the Santa Monica City Council voted to go ahead with plans for a bike share program in the city with roughly 375 bikes, and it could end up being the first in the county (LA has plans for a big program, but they've been held up). One issue will be creating a system that can work throughout the region, so that SaMo riders can drop their bikes in Culver City or Downtown or wherever. "We need to get out in front and we can drag [other cities] along behind us," says one councilmember. [Lookout News]
