The City Council's Planning and Land Use Management Committee *approved plans for a new hotel in Hollywood today, slated to replace the grotty old Vagabond Inn on Vine. The mayor and City Planning Commission are already on board with plans to demolish the existing 54-room motel and replace it with a six-story building with 112 guest rooms, tiny ground floor cafe, swimming pool, bike parking, and 63 (mostly subterranean) parking spaces. It's also been given the once-over by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, local neighborhood councils, and the Planning Department's Professional Volunteer Program for an architectural critique; that last group said the building conforms to Hollywood's Urban Design Guidelines, though they did question "the undulations and facade treatments." Assuming those undulations don't get in the way, it looks like The Vine Inn and Suites are headed to Hollywood! It doesn't sound like the Vagabond will be much missed. Updated 5:12pm
