The first phase of wavy new Tom Bradley International Terminal officially opened for business today (it sort-of opened earlier in the summer, take a full tour this way)--this means the South Concourse is now hosting flights, selling wares, and flashing digital entertainments. In addition to the 18 new gates, there's also the central Antonio Villaraigosa Pavilion (a gift for all you haters), which will eventually have "more than 60 premier dining and luxury retail and duty-free shops – including 22 local L.A. brands – and other world-class amenities," according to press materials (not all are open yet--more on the food here and the shops here). KPCC reports there's also a children's play area and lots of sockets and USB ports. Phase II will cover the eastern side of the terminal, including the connection to Terminal 4. That's scheduled to open in early 2015. Meanwhile, watch all of Phase I's construction, start to finish, in this time-lapse video:
