ECHO PARK: Slightly controversial Cafe Stella owner Gareth Kantner is working on two new restaurants that will occupy a former discount clothing store near Sunset and Echo Park Avenue. Dinette, opening in early 2014, will be a sandwich shop marrying Cuban and Vietnamese flavors, while the larger Libre will offer grilled meats and pizza, likely in about a year.
PLAYA DEY REY: Del Rey Kitchen is now open on Culver Boulevard, ready to feed all those hungry tech workers. The kitchen crew comes from the now-shuttered Sawtelle Kitchen, so expect Asian-influenced American cuisine. No liquor license yet, but it's coming.
BEVERLY GROVE: Andante Coffee Roasters, filling the old Buzz Coffee place on Beverly Boulevard across from the Grove, is now percolating. Decoration and food options are a bit sparse now, but additions are on their way. For now, there's pastries, espresso, coffee, and lots of outlets for the laptop legions.
