The Georgian Hotel, possibly Santa Monica's most gorgeous hotel, turns 80 this year. The blue, eight-story Art Deco landmark is hosting an anniversary affair on October 16 benefiting the Santa Monica Conservancy (the hotel was landmarked by the Conservancy back in '95). The hotel is also offering a special for guests--if they snap pictures of four SaMo landmarks, they'll get a mystery gift from the front desk. But back to the Georgian: designed by M. Eugene Durfee, it was home to one of the area's first speakeasy bars when it went up in the early thirties. The drinking hole, with red booths and wood paneling, still exists and is accessible via an alley entry.
