New York-based developer Millennium Partners thinks it's already been proven that the Hollywood fault does not run directly underneath their Capitol Records-flanking towers (which have been approved), but they're digging a trench on-site to double-check, at the request of the city. But new City Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell doesn't want folks to get carried away by this whole safety thing: "[W]e want to make sure we don't set some sort of precedent because there are suspicions that a fault line might be somewhere, that it stops all economic activity and development activity. It would cause irreparable harm to our economy if we proceeded that way." [LA Times, previously]
